THE DIOCESE OF CYANGUGU

The Diocese of Cyangugu is one of 13 Dioceses comprising Anglican Church of Rwanda. This diocese is located in the south western part of Rwanda. It borders with Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the south western part and Burundi in the South. The eastern part of Cyangugu Diocese is covered by Nyungwe Forest and it boarders Lake Kivu in the North West.

                                            HISTORY OF THE DIOCESE OF CYANGUGU

The Diocese started on 19/07/1992, when the former Diocese of Butare was divided into for Dioceses; Butare, Shyogwe, Kigeme and Cyangugu Dioceses. It started as a missionary Diocese with three parishes (Bweyeye, Banda and Nyarusange) administered by two Pastors. The Diocese had slightly above 800 Church members by the time of its inception. The Diocese currently has 7 archdeaconries, 43 parishes, and has a total of 18,000 Church members (according to 2021 statistics). Out of the 43 Parishes, 24 are in Rusizi and 19 are in Nyamasheke District.

OUR DIOCESE HAS:

The Diocese currently has 7 archdeaconries, 43 parishes,and has a total of 18,000 Church members (according to 2021 statistics). Out of the 43 Parishes, 24 are in Rusizi and 19 are in Nyamasheke District.

To glorify God and promote humanity by proclaiming the holistic Gospel and making disciples of Jesus Christ Our mission covers, in a nutshell, our commitment to bringing men and women, young and old to faith in Jesus Christ and into his church family. In the church family they will be loved and built up into Christ-like maturity, as well as being trained for holistic ministry both in church and in community to love and serve other people in need, and promote justice and integrity of God's creation.
